Hurghada Grand Aquarium Red Sea In Glass

HURGHADA GRAND AQUARIUM, RED SEA IN GLASS:

The Hurghada Grand Aquarium aims to inspire guests of all ages to appreciate the marine environment, promote conservation, and understand the priceless value of all life in the world's oceans. By educating children and adults about conservation, ecology, and responsibility, the aquarium believes they will use this knowledge to make sustainable decisions and actively participate in preserving our marine environment.

Opening Hours of the Hurghada Grand Aquarium:

The aquarium is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for visitors worldwide. Here, you can find approximately 1,200 different animals, representing over 1,000 species, living in around 1 million US gallons of freshwater and seawater. When it opened in 2005, it was the largest aquarium in Egypt. Among the most impressive marine species you can encounter are shovelnose guitarfish, stingrays, nurse sharks, green sea turtles, eagle rays, and many other fascinating creatures of various types.

Guinness World Record:

This aquarium holds a Guinness World Record, featuring a 48-meter-long glass tunnel. Sharks, rays, and fish swim all around, offering an up-close view of marine life and a chance to snap a photo of a shark nearby. The diver shows, where they play and feed sharks, are mesmerizing in this 11-meter-deep tunnel.

At the Hurghada Grand Aquarium, families can experience the ambiance of rainforests, with lighting and sounds that make you feel like you're in a real jungle as you walk through rare trees and uniquely designed forests. Additionally, the rocky beach adds to the stunning beauty of the surroundings.

Innovative Aquarium Design:

The Hurghada Grand Aquarium is uniquely designed to simulate the aquatic habitats of many living creatures. You’ll encounter marine life from tropical rainforests and then transition into the forests of Africa, where you'll hear the calls of distinctive birds like peacocks, swans, and ostriches. In rocky areas, visitors can safely experience a rugged wildlife adventure, watch crabs, feed monkeys, and interact with other animals.

Moving to the second floor, you’ll find a grand exhibition showcasing a vast array of fish and rare creatures from around the world, including lionfish, Humboldt penguins, otters, wild piranha fish, American crocodiles, and other unique marine species.

In the rare and large marine life exhibition, visitors walk on a glass floor, with a massive water aquarium below, housing wild marine creatures like sharks. It's an extraordinary experience!

With over 20 aquariums featuring various fish species from the Red Sea, including sharks, and a 24-meter underwater glass tunnel, the Hurghada Grand Aquarium has become a popular tourist destination in Egypt over the past six years.

Additional Information:

Located in the resort town of Hurghada on the Red Sea, the aquarium opened in 2015, allowing visitors to enjoy live underwater scenes, witness different fish species and coral reefs, and even dive with sharks.

"The idea of the aquarium came when we worked at diving centers in Hurghada and wanted to display what we saw underwater in a museum outside the sea to attract more tourists," said Magdy Fayek, CEO of the aquarium.

In addition to the large aquarium, there are 22 exhibition tanks housing over 650 fish species, including sharks and turtles. A mini-zoo features swans, monkeys, ostriches, American iguanas, pharaoh geese, eagles, snakes, turtles, peacocks, and more.

Several companies from various countries, including China, Malaysia, Germany, and France, collaborated with Egypt in building the aquarium. The acrylic used in the tanks was sourced from a Chinese factory.

The Hurghada Grand Aquarium is the seventh largest in the world, the second largest in the Middle East after the Dubai Aquarium, and the first in North Africa, said Bahaa Fathy, head of the IT department and protocol manager for the aquarium.

The aquarium contains 1 million US gallons (over 3,500 cubic meters) of water and houses over a dozen rare shark species, including sandbar sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and blacktip sharks, which are particularly popular with visitors. It also bred two baby sharks that will soon be part of the exhibitions.

Built on an area of about 20,000 square meters, the Hurghada Grand Aquarium is designed for future expansion and includes a seawater aquarium, a mini-zoo, and a rainforest area with eight large crocodiles.

Groups of Egyptian and foreign visitors have enjoyed the experience, marveling at the marine treasures and stunning views of the Red Sea's marine habitat.

Asmaa Abdullah, a homemaker from Cairo, visited the aquarium with her husband and two young daughters.

"This is our second visit to the aquarium. The place is beautiful, and the marine creatures are so attractive. The children are very happy too," she told Xinhua.

Catherina Boldt, a 22-year-old visitor from Germany, said, "It's not just an aquarium but also something like a jungle with monkeys and many animals.

It also allows diving with sharks, which is a great opportunity for people who fear diving in the open sea," said the young German, who was vacationing in Egypt for two weeks.

Nadezhda Khanin, a Russian tour guide in Hurghada, said, "Many clients ask us about trips to the aquarium to see the sharks and marine life.

Visitors are impressed by the aquarium and its design, and it has become the top tourist destination in Hurghada," said Yehya Abde-Hakim, the aquarium manager.
